How do you carefully and
completely clean your wound?

An important part of wound care is cleaning your wound. If you have a small cut or scrape, cleaning your wound may be as simple as carefully washing the wound area, applying an antibiotic ointment, and placing a bandage over the wound. If you wound is diagnosed as complex/difficult, cleaning the wound carefully and completely may involve the physical removal of tissue from the wound. One of the options for wound cleaning is a process called debridement.

Debridement (deh-breed-ment) is the removal of dead or infected tissues and other impurities that slow down wound healing. This process uses specially designed tools to carefully and completely clean your wound. The specialist performing the debridement will discuss the process with you. The specialist will also want to know if you are feeling any discomfort or pain during the process.
